MSc Health Promotion and Public Health

Describe your experience of studying at Ulster in 3

Revitalising, enjoyable, satisfying

Why did you choose your postgraduate course?

I have worked in Environmental Health for almost ten years since graduation. I have a greater interest in health promotion and well-being than the usual enforcement of legislative requirements. My proactive work investing in individuals’ futures and health has been more enjoyable and fulfilling than routine inspections. This inspired me to learn more about this area and broaden my horizons. That’s exactly what postgraduate study has provided for me. I have been challenged but enthused by all of it, even the serious challenge of studying while working full time. I would really recommend postgraduate study, my mind has been opened and my outlook and perspective changed for the better.

What advice would you give someone considering postgraduate study?

Embrace the opportunity to learn in a completely new and fulfilling way. There will be many challenges, but once overcome, they are completely fulfilling. Remember that you are doing this for yourself and no one else. The impact on your future and career may not be immediately obvious when you start but that you will have a new focus and direction in mind when you’re in the thick of it. Good luck with your studies.
