MSc Fire Safety Engineering

Describe your experience of studying at Ulster in 3 words

Engaging, challenging, rewarding.

What is your current job title?

I am employed as a Fire Safety Engineer with Wood & Grieve Engineers in Perth, Australia.

Why did you choose your postgraduate course?

I had completed the BSc in Fire Safety Engineering at Letterkenny Institute of Technology and the job market was slow so I decided to upskill and was aware the course at Ulster University was well regarded with employers and also required to attain Chartered Engineer Status.

What did you enjoy most about the course? Is there one thing in particular that stands out?

I enjoyed the group project as it helps prepare you for life in the consulting environment.

Has this course brought any benefit to you since graduating?

I was provided with a job offer prior to graduating due to the qualification and I am currently in the process of applying for Chartered status in Australia and the MSc meets the educational requirements.

What advice would you give someone considering postgraduate study?

It is never too late to return to university. I found it daunting at first but at Ulster University there is plenty of resources and help for mature students. It is tough but rewarding, so go for it.

Has this inspired you to take on further study?
