Are you currently in employment and if so where?
I am the Marketing Assistant for Victoria Square and also a lifestyle blogger at ThatBelfastGirl.com. My day to day consists of co-ordinating all of the social media & content production for Victoria Square, dealing with media and blogger inquiries as well as booking in all of the promotions. At night I go to blogger events and create content for my own channels.
What made you want to do a postgraduate course and why Ulster University?
I had already completed an Undergraduate in Politics and my PGCE. I felt I had a good personality and skills from my blogging career that would take me far in the world of marketing. I live close to Ulster University and I had met a lot of successful people in NI who had studied on the same course – high recommendations!
What did you enjoy most about the course?
I loved our communication tasks – we were put a room and filmed doing things like presentation and negotiations. It was really interesting to see how other people view you & learning how to control your body language in a professional setting. My marketing module has also proved really helpful – learning from lecturers with a wealth of industry knowledge was super.
Has this course brought any benefit to you since graduating?
Having lots of guest lecturers allowed us to learn by example. Seeing best practice explained through both consumer and business examples opened my eyes to the many disciplines that my degree could lead to. My lessons from my PR lectures in particular are ones which I call on to remind myself of things like best practice for evaluation.
What advice would you give someone considering postgraduate study?
It’s intense study but it’s fantastic as you are studying a topic that will directly be part of your future career. I’m so glad I decided to take the leap and do it.
